• The Kannada film industry is also taking baby steps to set up a formal platform for victims of harassment. FIRE — Film Industry for Rights and Equality — is set be launched formally soon. Its president Priyanka Upendra said an ICC will be set up to address not just complaints of sexual harassment, but also breach of human rights. “We will also hold workshops for newcomers. Complaints of harassment usually come from newcomers, junior artists and dancers and we want them to be made aware of their rights,” she said.
  • Ms. Upendra said mechanisms for anonymity in registering complaints will also be enabled. “We know we don’t have the legal powers. But we will certainly help the victims go to the police. We also feel that the presence of such a body will instil some fear among people,” she added.
