Farmers injured in lathi-charge

January 03, 2013 12:06 am | Updated 12:06 am IST - GREATER NOIDA:

Farmers were lathi-charged and some of them were injured when they tried to stop work on the construction of a hi-tech city at Naiphal in Ghaziabad on Wednesday.

Farmers from Dujana, Durai, Kajipur, Nayayphal, Bayana and other villages took out their tractor-trolleys and moved to stop the work, alleging that their land was acquired at throw-away prices. They were demanding a 64.7 per cent increase in compensation, 10 per cent of developed land and 120-sq. mt. plot for landless farmers.

As the farmers marched towards the site, the police used canes to disperse them. This caused panic, and several farmers were injured. They were rushed to a Ghaziabad hospital and discharged after first aid.
