Concerned over growing incidents of fake marks sheets produced by pilots, a Congress member on Tuesday made a strong plea in the Lok Sabha that the role of regulator in the aviation sector needed to be put on an independent footing.
Raising the issue during zero hour, Mr. Manish Tewari said cases of fake marks lists by pilots have serious implications for the safety of passengers.
Noting that authorities are now reviewing 4,000 licences to pilots, he said the situation needed to be utilised to bring the Directorate General of Civil Aviation under a proper Act of Parliament.
He said at present DGCA is not mandated by any such Act and, therefore, it could be subject to all kinds of pulls and pressures.
