Fahim Ansari and Sabahuddin Ahmed, who were acquitted on Monday by the Bombay High Court in the 26/11 Mumbai attacks case, have been asked by a court in Rampur to appear before it on February 25 for trial in a case of attack on a CRPF camp that left eight persons dead.
This direction has been given by Additional District Judge G. S. Pathak in connection with the hearing of the case relating to the attack on the CRPF Group Centre here on January 1, 2008 in which seven paramilitary personnel and a civilian were killed.
According to the chargesheet filed by the police, eight suspected terrorists of the banned Lashkar-e-Taiba were behind the attack.
Prosecution has claimed that they have corroborative evidence against the eight accused — Faheem Ansari, Sabahuddin Ahmed, Sharif, Gulab, Jung Bahaddur, Kausar, Imran and Farooq, who were arrested from various places in U.P. and Maharashtra.
Fahim was arrested on February 10, 2008 and a pistol bearing the insignia of ‘Tatar Ordinance Factory’ based in Peshawar, Pakistan, was allegedly found on him.
It has also submitted that the suspected LeT terrorist was in possession of a Pakistani passport issued in name of Hassan Hammad, valid till October 2012.
According to the chargesheet, Fahim had told the investigators that he was working in Saudi Arabia from where he went to Pakistan for training.
The court has so far held thirty hearings in the case.
Six out of the eight accused arrested in connection with the case are currently lodged in Bareilly central jail.
The order for production of Faheem and Sabauddin was passed by the court about two weeks back.
