The Bharatiya Janata Party Government is likely to get a majority in the vote of confidence motion on the floor of the House on Wednesday.
Irrespective of whether the Nationalist Congress Party decides to remain absent during the vote of confidence or votes for the BJP government, the new government is set to cross the majority figure.
If the NCP decides to participate in the confidence motion, the BJP government will have to get at least 144 votes to get the majority. The leading party already has 122 seats. With the NCP's promise of unconditional support, the party's 41 members are likely to vote for BJP. This will take the total to 163, which is 19 votes more than the majority figure.
In this scenario, the BJP government will not need the support of independent members.
In a second possibility, if the NCP abstains from voting, the BJP will need 124 votes to prove its strength on the floor of the House. It already has 122 members. 12 other members including seven independent members and one member of the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena, will take the tally to 134.
In both the possibilities, the BJP government is likely to win the vote of confidence. Shiv Sena, the former saffron ally, has decided to sit in opposition this time.
