In a breakthrough, the police and security forces have arrested a hardcore insurgent of the Kanglei Yawol Kunna Lup (a Meitei terrorist group) and on his information explosives stashed away in a tribal village in Imphal West district have been seized. The police paraded Surjit Sougrakpam of Sougrakpam Leikai in the district on Wednesday morning.

The police told journalists that Sougrakpam, who was arrested on Tuesday, led a team of police commandos and personnel of 18 Sikh Regiment to the mountain village of Namching Khul, where they found two powerful foreign-made explosives, 10 China-made hand grenades, 10 detonators, one remote control device and some batteries.

The police say these explosives were meant for ambuscades against the security forces.
