Reliance Industries Ltd. (RIL) confirmed on Tuesday that one of its officials had received summons from the Central Bureau of Investigation to join the investigation of corporate espionage. The official has been asked to appear before the investigating team in Delhi on Wednesday.
“A notice to witness has been served on one of our officers today [Tuesday]. The company is ascertaining the facts and will be able to decide a course of action after his interaction with the authorities,” an RIL spokesperson said.
The senior RIL official, currently posted in Mumbai, has been summoned to ascertain the nature of his relations with the main accused, Khemchand Gandhi, a Mumbai-based chartered accountant who was arrested last week for allegedly procuring classified documents stolen from the Union Ministries of Finance and Commerce.
The agency asked Rajendra P. Chitale, managing partner of Chitale & Associates, whose partner Paresh Chimanlal Buddhadeb has been arrested for allegedly procuring and destroying classified documents, to join the investigations in Delhi on Wednesday.
The CBI arrested Mr. Buddhadeb at his office while he was allegedly destroying documents stuffed in two sacks.
