The Centre has asked State governments to ensure that NREGA job cards are “complete in all respect” and verified before being issued as it will now be a valid document for opening a bank account.

“NREGA job cards duly signed by State government officers can also be accepted as an officially valid document for opening an account in the bank... State governments are requested to ensure that issued NREGA job cards are complete in all respect,” Ministry of Rural Development has instructed the states in an advisory.

For the purpose of verification of NREGA job cards, the Ministry advised, “State governments may organise verification camps or verification campaigns and discrepancy, if any found in job cards, be rectified on the spot.”

The ministry asked the State governments to ensure that the job cards had a unique identity number, photographs of the registered members, postal account number or bank account number, elector’s photo identity card number, signature or thumb impression of the applicant, seal and signature of the registering authority and signature of the officer concerned.

The ministry also asked the States to intimate it about the action taken by them in compliance of its advisory.
