Communist Party of India national secretary and Rajya Sabha MP D. Raja has written to Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, seeking his intervention “to ensure adequate medical treatment to G.N. Saibaba and Kobad Ghandy, currently lodged in the Central Jail in Nagpur and the Central Jail in Visakhapatnam respectively.

While Ghandy is a Maoist ideologue, Saibaba, who used to teach at Delhi University’s Ram Lal Anand College, was arrested for his alleged links to Maoists. In his July 18 letter, Mr. Raja points out that Saibaba, who is 90% disabled and was sentenced to life imprisonment on March 7, 2017, requires urgent medical treatment. Mrs. Saibaba has appealed to the NHRC that Saibaba be allowed to go to Hyderabad for the surgery,” he has written.

About the 70 year-old Ghandy, Mr. Raja has written that he is suffering from several ailments and that his condition has deteriorated. “Without proper treatment and with regular jail transfers, all conditions have aggravated.”
