One policeman was killed during an anti-militancy operation in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Wednesday.

Army’s 27 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) and the police’s Special Operation Group (SOG) encircled Yembarzalwari Marbal area in Sopore town in the morning.

The militants opened indiscriminate fire at the search party. One constable, Muhammad Shafiq, was killed in the firing. The militants managed to escape from the spot, said police officials.

Later in the day, a cop and three civilians were injured in a clash in Sopore’s Dooru area. Stone pelting erupted shortly after the examination of Class 12 got over. The security forces resorted to pellets, PAVA guns and teargas shells to disperse the protesters.
