Employees stage protest

Employees of news agencies and several newspapers held demonstrations here and in other places to press for the implementation of the Majithia wage board awards notified by the government last month.

The protest was called by the Confederation of Newspaper and News Agency Employees' Organisations (CNNAEO), an apex body of newspaper industry workers, to protest “roadblocks” in the execution of the report.

Addressing the protesters, CNNAEO general secretary M.S. Yadav warned that the confederation would be forced to give a call for a nationwide strike if the recommendations were not implemented.

He appealed to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi to use their good offices for implementation.

Confederation leaders regretted the “delay” in implementing the award though there was no Supreme Court stay.
