Eight persons, including police personnel were killed in a landmine blast triggered by Maoists in Bihar’s Gaya district on Friday. The two others were a special police officer and relative of a sarpanch.
The incident took place around 11 a.m. A team of eight was travelling in a jeep to attend a meeting of anganwadi workers. Six of them were police personnel, one a special police officer and one father-in-law of the sarpanch. When they reached a concrete road in Balasot area in Roshanganj, their vehicle was blown off by the landmine blast and all them were killed, Akhtar Hussain, Superintendent of Police, Gaya (city) told The Hindu .
There was firing too after the blast occurred. Two companies of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and one unit of the Special Task Force was deployed to the site.
“Our operation is still on. No arrest has been made yet,” Mr. Hussain said. He denied reports that the eight persons were going to attend an awareness programme by an NGO.
