Egypt Air flight makes emergency landing in Mumbai

A city-bound Egypt Air flight with 124 passengers on board from Cairo, landed under emergency conditions at the airport in Mumbai on Wednesday due to a suspected fire in the cargo hold of the aircraft.

The aircraft landed safely this morning and all the passengers were deplaned, a Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL) spokesperson said.

“Full emergency was declared at 07:25 hours for the Egypt Air Cairo-Mumbai flight MS 968 with 124 passengers and seven crew on board the aircraft due to suspected fire in the cargo hold of the Boeing 738 aircraft,” the spokesperson said.

Passengers were disembarked safely and all cargo was removed, the official said.

Later an inspection of the cargo was carried out and no fire was found following which the full emergency was withdrawn at 08:07 hours, the official added.
