Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Friday said the government was taking all possible steps to counter rising food prices and added that he was confident that India’s economic growth would exceed 8 percent in the next fiscal.

“This year we hope to achieve 7.2-7.5 percent economic growth; next fiscal we expect to achieve 8 percent and year thereafter we expect to return to 9 percent growth rate,” the Prime Minister said in the Lok Sabha while answering questions on galloping food inflation.

“The government has been alive to this problem and has taken all possible measures to address this issue,” he said.
