EC gets fresh CD containing Beni Prasad's speech

February 18, 2012 02:05 am | Updated July 24, 2016 01:18 am IST - NEW DELHI:

The Election Commission on Friday received a fresh CD from the Uttar Pradesh Chief Electoral Officer with improved audio and video quality containing the alleged speech of Union Steel Minister and Congress leader Beni Prasad Verma, wherein he had challenged the EC's authority in the ruling on the “sub-quota for minorities issue” (against Union Law Minister Salman Khurshid).

Sources said the EC was yet to look at the CD; necessary action would be taken soon.

The Minister, while speaking at an election rally in the Farukkhabad (where poll will be held on Sunday) Assembly constituency on Wednesday, referred to the issue and said reservation for Muslims would be increased. He challenged the EC to issue notice to him (for violating the model code of conduct).
