Apprehending disastrous impact of cyclone, the East Coast Railway (ECoR) has decided to cancel and regulate 24 trains on Saturday.
For the post-cyclone relief and restoration work, it has been planned to regulate and cancel local passenger trains between Visakhapatnam and Bhadrak in Howrah-Chennai Main Line and to Paradip, Puri, Angul and Talcher in branch line, said East Coast Railway said in a statement in Bhubaneshwar on Friday.
The trains include Puri-Cuttack-Puri passenger, Paradip-Cuttack passenger, Cuttack-Paradip passenger, Puri-Gunupur-Puri passenger, Puri-Rourkela passenger, Puri-Cuttack passenger, Bhadrak-Cuttack-Bhadrak Passenger, Cuttack-Palasa-Cuttack passenger, Palasa-Bhubaneswar-Palasa passenger and Bhubaneswar-Chhatrapur-Bhubaneswar Passenger.
Besides, Visakhapatnam-Palasa-Visakhapatnam, Visakhapatnam-Palasa-Visakhapatnam MEMU, Visakhapatnam-Vizianagaram-Visakhapatnam MEMU, Khurda Road-Puri Passenger, Talcher-Puri passenger, Angul-Puri passenger and Bhadrak-Bhubaneswar Passenger have been cancelled and regulated on Saturday.
The zonal headquarters has opened emergency control room manned by senior officials round the clock at major places to co-ordinate smooth running of trains. ECoR said it was geared up its resources for the convenience of the passengers. Special relief trains had been planned to be run to the disaster affected areas carrying relief and restoration materials, it said.
Apart from this, extra Diesel Engines have been requisitioned in case there is a problem in running long distance Electric trains.
Meanwhile, Central Electricity Supply Utility, the power distribution company for nine coastal and central districts of Odisha, said it was prepared to restore power supply to the essential service units like medical, water supply and railway units.
CESU Chief Executive Officer Sudarsan Nayak said instructed had been issued to all the field divisional and circle heads in the nine districts to be prepare for the coming cyclone .
