Within hours of the Madras High Court rejecting Home Minister P. Chidambaram's plea for dismissal of a petition questioning his election to the Lok Sabha in the 2009 polls, the BJP asked Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to drop him from the Cabinet as he had lost the ‘moral authority' to continue as Minister. However, the Congress firmly stood by Mr. Chidambaram. The Home Minister rejected the demand, saying that he was ‘astonished at the monumental ignorance' of the Opposition.
Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, BJP president Nitin Gadkari said Mr. Chidambaram, who had been embroiled in so many controversies, could not continue as Minister.
Recalling that his party had also made allegations against Mr. Chidambaram in the 2G scam and the Aircel-Maxis deal (which were denied by the Home Minister), Mr. Gadkari said: “What more evidence does the Prime Minister need? Is this not enough evidence? On moral grounds, Mr. Chidambaram has no right to continue in office. He should have resigned earlier. We had boycotted him in Parliament yet the Prime Minister did not take it seriously.”
The BJP chief enumerated all the charges levelled against the Home Minister in recent months, and said: “In spite of all this, why are the Congress, the UPA, the Prime Minister and Sonia Gandhi giving him shelter? Ms. Sonia Gandhi had said that she will not bear with corruption and will take action. Then why are the Prime Minister and Ms. Gandhi bearing with Mr. Chidambaram's corruption? Why has no strong action been taken despite the High Court verdict?”
Backing his Cabinet colleague, Law Minister Salman Khurshid said: “The BJP wakes up in the morning and says the Home Minister should resign. God knows how many times the Home Minister would have resigned had he accepted whatever the BJP said.”
Mr. Khurshid said elections could be challenged only through an election petition. Media reports were creating the impression that this was a criminal trial, which was not the case.Congress general secretary Digvijay Singh said: “What case has he [Mr. Chidambaram] lost? It's an election petition. He has not lost a case, which has anything to do with his working as the Home Minister.”
Mr. Singh dismissed AIADMK chief Jayalalithaa's remark that Mr. Chidambaram's continuance in the government would be a “blot on democracy,” saying, “As far as Ms. Jayalalithaa is concerned, it is a political issue. The Election Commission has declared Mr. Chidambaram elected and that is it.”

Now in the politics there is no moral, everything is fine what ever you do .If you are in
power you can do all the things according to your will. There must be some yardstick
for all the politicians to follow so that cleanness in the politics may also come and
the media may also not able to highlight each and every thing. In politics there is no
moral responsibility.
The comments here looks ridiculous. How can anybody come to a conclusion just for any allegations. If that is the case, then it is not only Chidambaram but also all politicians and to be politicians cannot continue in any position. Some XYZ levels allegations then immediately every one and that too educated people are coming to conclusions. Even the news papers ( in this case The Hindu) too is projecting the news in a biased way. I was reading this paper for the past 40 years but off late they are leaning towards a particular side. Politicians like Jayalalitha, Karunanidhi, Ramadass, Advani, Narendra modi etc cannot continue if the same yardstick is being used for all. All of you just think as educated people and see what your conscience says to you. We as people are loosing the morality and giving instant judgements. Just ask yourself a question. Are you not Corrupt? If opportunity comes will you not accept money? ( ask your true conscience not for the sake of blogging).
Jayalalitha and Subramania Swamy have nothing more in their political careers than to instill continuous uncouth allegations against P.Chidambaram. Why must he resign? It is just an election petition which should have been resolved at and by the Election Commission.
For the similar reasons of propriety and morality, Mr Gadkari should ask Mr Narendra Modi to step down as CM.
Also Gadkari should ask all BJP members of parliament who have been named in Ayodhya demolition case step down on moral grounds as well pending investigation and disposal of the case in the court.
BJP wants the whole government is to ba sacked and especially the HM for being instrumental for tough scrutiny of the right wing fundamentalists. Majority of the impartial public watch him as an effective and efficient HM, who handled the left wing, right wing extremists and relegious fundamentalists single handedly. He is doing a good job to the nation and the demand by these political forces for his resignation is malicious.
It's time to think about giving wings to CBI.In the present scenario they are just a key toy of the government,if they operate as a independent body then we would need to built additional jail to accommodate the corrupt minister.
Shri.P.Chidambaram should voluntarily resign from the union cabinet,as
the Madras High Court Verdict is definitely a set back for him. The
People of Tamil Nadu know very well that some malpractices have taken
place during the counting process in the 2009 Sivaganga Lok Sabha
constituency. This has been vindicated by the verdict of the Madras
High Court.Hence, in order to uphold the rule of law & democratic
decency,it would be better for Shri.P.Chidambaram to voluntarily
resign from the union ministry on moral grounds and face trial as per
law, so that law can take its own course.
gone are the days of lal bahadur shastri, there is no propriety and
morality in politics.no body asks chidambaram to resign from membership
of lok sabha, the least he can do is to resign from cabinet till he is
cleared in this case.these are the bunch of shameless politicians who
love to cling to power.anna is 100% right in demanding lok pal bill
passage.but these politicians wo'nt let it happen.
