Driver, guard found guilty for collision

Commissioner of Railway Safety, North Eastern Circle, Lucknow, P.K. Bajpai has held the driver and guard of the Kalindi Express responsible for ramming into the Shram Shakti Express. The collision killed three persons and injured 18 in Uttar Pradesh on January 16.

The report faulted the driver for speeding at 29 kms per hour as against the speed limit of 8 km per hour after halting at the red signal for just 2 minute and 16 seconds.

The guard was faulted for not warning the driver about the revised instructions — stopping at least 10 minutes at a danger signal — and not applying the breaks.

Mr. Bajpai expressed his surprise that though the Railway Board had issued revised instruction, it had exempted the suburban section from its purview. He also found the interim measures taken by the Board as inadequate.
