Dreaded Naxal Commander active in Gadchiroli

Dreaded Naxal leader Thakapalli Vasudev Rao alias Assannna alias Satish alias Sujit has entered Gadchiroli, according to the Gadchiroli police.

“Assannna, a resident of Warangal district in Andhra Pradesh, was a member of Dandakaranya Special Zonal committee of the Communist Party of India (CPI) Maoist and the Military Instructor of its armed wing,” Gadchiroli Superintendent of Police (SP) Suvez Haque told The Hindu .

Assanna is believed to be the master-mind behind the assassination bid on the then Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, N. Chandrababu Naidu, near Tirupati in 2003.

He is wanted in cases related to the killing of Deputy Inspector General (DIG) K.S. Vyas, near Lal Bahadur Shastri stadium in Hyderabad, the murder of Karimnagar SP Umesh Chandra and the murder of Kurnool MLA Budda Vengal Reddy and many other cases, informed Mr. Haque.

Mr. Haque said Assannna is currently a member of Central Committee’s Action Team of the CPI Maoists.
