DoT legal adviser transferred to Law Ministry

The government on Wednesday transferred Santokh Singh, legal adviser to the Department of Telecom (DoT), to the Law Ministry.

Sources in the know confirmed the development.

Mr. Singh was associated with the affidavit filed by the DoT in the Supreme Court, which said that all decisions taken on new unified access service (UAS) licences and allocation of 2G spectrum to new operators had the concurrence of the Prime Minister.

The affidavit was filed by the DoT in response to a PIL filed by Janata Party leader Subramanian Swamy seeking sanction for launching prosecution proceedings against then Telecom Minister A. Raja over allocation of 2G spectrum.

The decision to transfer Mr. Singh came just a few months ahead of his superannuation. He was with the DoT for over four years and advised the department on several important issues relating to 2G spectrum allocation and 3G spectrum auction.

Mr. Singh is the second senior official who has been transferred after R.K. Chandolia, former economic adviser to the department.
