A Shiv Sena delegation on Saturday met Maharashtra Governor K. Sankaranarayanan, seeking a special legislature session for discussing the judicial commission report on the Adarsh housing scam.
The party demanded prosecution of all indicted politicians, including the former Chief Minister Ashok Chavan.
“The political leaders are the ones who allowed this scam.
“All leaders, along with the bureaucrats who have been indicted by the commission, should be brought to book,” Shiv Sena leader Subhash Desai told the Governor.
‘Allow prosecution’The other demands, made by the delegation of over a dozen legislators, are that the Governor should reconsider his decision not allowing the CBI to prosecute Mr. Ashok Chavan and that the names of benami owners of flats in the Adarsh housing society be made public.
“Ashok Chavan has been indicted but the government hasn’t taken any action. We are pained to see the Governor’s name being dragged in the controversy. Please reconsider your opinion regarding Mr. Chavan,” senior leader Diwakar Raote said.
Benami owners“There are 26 cases of benami flat owners. People like electricians and vegetable vendors who cannot afford a flat costing Rs. 80 lakh are shown to own a flat. Please ask the CBI to investigate the benami flats,” Mr. Desai said.
Accusing the government of avoiding any discussion in the legislature on the Adarsh report, Mr. Desai said it was tabled on the final day, almost at the concluding time.
“Hardly anyone got a copy of it, as only 50 copies in English were made available.
“There was no single copy in Marathi.
“Thereafter, debate was not allowed.
“A special session must be called to table the final, amended report, along with the Action Taken Report.
We want to discuss in the House all the pros and cons of the issue,” Mr Desai pleaded.
Governor’s assuranceThe Governor accepted a memorandum submitted by the delegation and assured it that he would discuss the matter with Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan.
Recently, the Chief Minister, doing a U-turn on not accepting the Adarsh report, partially accepted it, thus paving way for prosecution of senior bureaucrats, but left politicians untouched, including Sushilkumar Shinde, another former Chief Minister and now Union Minister.
