India should oppose general sanctions on Libya
Expressing reservations over the government supporting the U.S., NATO and Israel-sponsored military intervention and sanctions against Libya, the Communist Party of India on Saturday said India should oppose general sanctions.
“If the Indian government supports foreign intervention in Libya it will be a tragedy and an abetment to imperialist designs. It will be another shift from the non-alignment foreign policy. The CPI demands that the Government of India keep away from the U.S. sponsored military actions and condemn such misadventures, which will be only counter productive,” the party Central Secretariat said in a release here.
It said for the last several weeks the Arab world had been churning in its biggest battle for democracy. Tunisia and Egypt have succeeded, while the fight is going on in other countries. All the despotic regimes in the Arab world are supported and protected by the U.S. The Arab rulers are partners in America's international games against Palestine.
The CPI said the U.S. wants to control Libya's oil. “The U.S. will never learn a lesson. They will unleash most brutal attacks on Libya like in Iraq and Afghanistan. But why should India support this dirty game? India should also oppose general sanctions on Libya as suggested by the U.S. Let us support the people's struggle for democracy and freedom. Libyans are capable of winning their battle.”
