Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam president M. Karunanidhi has disputed a report published in The Hindu that said party treasurer M.K. >Stalin threatened to quit his position if the DMK did not snap ties with the United Progressive Alliance.
In a statement here on Thursday, Mr. Karunanidhi said the DMK functioned on the basis of democratic principles and major decisions were not made by individuals.
He said that after Union Ministers P. Chidambaram, Ghulam Nabi Azad and A.K. Antony had met him on the Sri Lankan issue, he held discussions with senior party leaders, including K. Anbazhagan and Durai Murugan, before taking a decision on leaving the UPA.
