Disastrous floor management, say women MPs

March 09, 2010 01:41 am | Updated 01:41 am IST - New Delhi:

Several women MPs on Monday blamed “absolutely disastrous” floor management for the pandemonium in the Rajya Sabha on the Women's Reservation Bill.

BJP member Najma Heptullah said the responsibility lay with the Parliamentary Affairs Minister and the whips. “They should have ensured floor management... The floor management was absolutely disastrous,” she said.

For Annie Raja of the CPI, “it was a black day for democracy.”

“Twenty-five people managed to hold Parliament to ransom. It is saddening to see the way the Rajya Sabha Chairman was attacked,” she said.

Rajya Sabha member Kanimozhi, of the DMK, said: “Such an important Bill, if you can debate it and then pass it, would be welcome, and that would have been the right thing to do.”
