External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid has termed an insult the arrest in public of Deputy Consul-General Devyani Khobragade in New York on December 12.
“We consider it as an insult. The U.S. has been informed of our stand on this, and we are awaiting its response… and [we will] do the needful after it is received,” he told journalists here on Saturday.
Ms. Khobragade, 39, a 1999 batch IFS officer, was taken into custody on visa fraud charges as she was dropping off her daughter at school and handcuffed in public.
She was released on a $250,000 bond after she pleaded not guilty in court.
Replying to a question on the Aam Admi Party, Mr. Khurshid said it should take the responsibility of forming a government in Delhi.
