Dip in pass percentage in CBSE Class 12 exams

From 83.05% in 2016, it fell to 82.02% this year; 63,247 students score above 90% and 10,091 get 95%

The Central Board of Secondary Education announced the results of Class XII examination on Sunday that saw the pass percentage dip by 1.3% — from 83.05% in 2016 to 82.02% this year.

Raksha Gopal from Noida topped the examination scoring 99.6% with the second position going to Bhumi Sawant from Chandigarh with 99.4%. Aditya Jain and Mannat Luthra, both from Chandigarh, came in joint third with 99.2%.

The CBSE said a total of 63,247 students and 10,091 students scored above 90% and 95% respectively. The regions with the top three pass percentages were Thiruvananthapuram, Chennai and Delhi — 95.62, 92.60 and 88.37 — respectively.

Starts Helpline

The Board said it had started a helpline with toll-free number 18000118004 for counselling which would be active till June 11 between 8 a.m. and 10 p.m.

Officials said no request for re-evaluation would be entertained but the process of verification of marks and providing photocopy of answer books would continue.

The exams, held between March 9 and April 29, covered 10,673 schools at 3,504 exam centres. The board announced the results of all its 10 regions simultaneously.

The Delhi region has the highest number of candidates (2,58,321), followed by Panchkula with 1,84,557 and Ajmer with 1,31,449 candidates.

This year, Delhi’s performance improved by nearly 1% as the capital recorded a pass percentage of 87.01. Government-run Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas performed the best with a pass percentage of 95.73, while the Kendriya Vidyalayas recorded 94.60% success.
