The Congress on Sunday dismissed Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati’s claim that Karnataka High Court Chief Justice P.D. Dinakaran, against whom an impeachment motion has been admitted in the Rajya Sabha, would not get full opportunity to place his version.

The party did not see the issue in caste, community or regional terms, spokesman Abhishek Singhvi said here.

“It is a constitutional process of impeachment in which political motives need not be injected at this stage. One must remember that the person will have full opportunity to place his version at each stage of the constitutional process.”

Ms. Mayawati on Saturday wrote to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh seeking his intervention to ensure that Justice Dinakaran got an opportunity to present his point of view before any action was taken against him.

Justice Dinakaran is facing charges of having assets disproportionate to the known sources of his income and grabbing land.
