With the Congress-led UPA bowing to the Trinamool Congress' pressure, its member and Union Minister of State for Shipping Mukul Roy was hurriedly elevated to the Cabinet rank and allocated the Railways portfolio on Tuesday, primarily to fulfil the constitutional requirement of passing the Railway budget, already delayed by five days.
Mamata absent
At an urgently held swearing-in at Rashtrapati Bhavan, President Pratibha Patil administered him the oath of office. The ceremony was sparsely attended, among others, by Vice-President Hamid Ansari, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress president Sonia Gandhi. Ms. Banerjee was not present
Trinamool's Dinesh Trivedi, who resigned as Railway Minister following differences with his party chief and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee over a host of issues including fare hike, was conspicuous by his absence. There were no handshakes even as Mr. Roy thanked his seniors. Just a couple of party leaders patted him or acknowledged his greetings. The Prime Minister left the function immediately and Ms. Gandhi too avoided reporters.
‘I'll address issues only in House'
Mr. Roy said his priority would be safety, security and punctuality of trains but declined to comment on his party's demand for a rollback of the fare hike. The budget now being parliamentary property, he would address only in the House the issues he intended taking up.

Finally the lameduck UPA2 succumbed to the pressure mounted by his allies to remove dinesh trivedi from the cabinet. The one who proposed a vision to take out INDIAN RAILWAYS from precarious situation...Does it augur well for the integrity and majesty of PM's office??
Mukul Roy is a local in Kanchrapara(a place in west bengal) and he was nothing more than an illiterate congress cadre working for Abu Mastan(a holligan congress leader). But fact is Indians deserve this. :-)
The forceful induction of Mukul Roy as Rly Minister has been appropriately symbolized by the fatal Rly accident that occured thereafter...
That is what Indian Politics is. India's Railways Minister does not
even have enough right to present the budget for what he might have done
many surveys, number of reports might be generated after that the future
course of action was decided. But because he has followed the protocol
of Indian constitution and Parliamentary actions he has got reward, he
has to resign in the mid term even the parliamentary session is not
over.
Trivedi triumph even as the saga of shame and spineless
leadership takes the nation deeper into what could be the lowest
point in the battle between doing the right thing vis-a-vis being
on the easy right side of Mamatadi.
Mukul Roy's attitude towards safety and railways is far from
reassuring if we are to derive our opinion on his response to
earlier accidents when he was MOS Railways. PM could have send a
clear signal to the pro reform "do-righters" by backing Trivedi
to the hilt! though he put in on record his appreciation and
sadness at having to let go a man who has some conviction in
Indian politics after a long long time... ( he has over the past
8 yrs often compel too much by compulsion).
Hope the Budget is passed without much compromise !!!. Trivedi
someday we hope to see you back
''Even before the end of the introduction ceremony,Mamta would ask him to get down in the next station and usher in another passenger as railway minister.,These accidents would happen in a coalition rule and signals are given by the( wo)manned level crossings,This minister is traveling with a Rajya sabha ticket after the train(budget) left the station.
Trivedi had not consulted MS.Mamata even in her capacity as the then
Railway minister to understand the outcome of a hike.Hence he deserves
what he got. Also the nation cannot forget the simplicity, unclouded by
verbose corporatisation(read corruption), of Ms.Mamata.Let us all
think of things on Indian realities. The public utilities in the
country must keep service their topmost priority and then only
profit. The rulers ofthe country especially Congress appear to have
clean forgotten this. The current rates of second class 3-ac,a/c chair
cars, and freight rates -these form major part of revenue- must not be
altered to afford relief to public.Criticism on contrary is
deplorable.
form the major share of revenue
We could have a minister for railways like IT,shipping, coal, steel etc.
and also any coalition partner could be given that post,No problem at all,But we wonder why we are continuing a separate budget for railways alone,The income and expenditure of railways should form part of
the financial budget(inclusive policy of congress)on the budget day.
Actually the Finance minister said that the railway budget has his approval and stamp. If this is a British system,we should change it
for it is British idea.If it is not we should bring in amendments
to dispense with separate budget.
"....Poor Politics.. Mr. Trivedi was on right track, but 'respected' Mamta Ji welcomed with 'red signal'.... Good Drama!!
Dirty Politics - Thats what it is... and the most frustating part is that we people of the country can only be silent spectators. No one can be more happy than Lady Mamata who has had her way in bringing in OBIDIENT Mukul Roy as the Rly Minister. Credential & capability is absolutely secondary as Mamata is confident of having a dedicated slave in the chair who can drown the Minitry further to damages done by herself during her tenure as a Rly Min. The Rly ministry is practically now TMC property who can call shots on anything from scrapping a national budget, sacking a rational minister, black-mailing the govt and what more God only knows.. The country is actually held at ransom by these cheap & incompetent characters.. Dineshji has been a real idol of committment, composure & character in sharp contrast to the TMC leader and her team of dedicated destructors!
A dirty face of politics .. Dinesh trivedi MBA from texas is replaced by this mukul roy higher secondary passout who denied to visit the site of derailment of the Guwahati-Puri Express in Assam .What a shame for every indian who have faith in democracy..
This is just a gimmick by Mamata, can anybody belive, Trivedi has Presented the Railway Budget without informing the content to Mamata.
The sacking of a daring minister who is moved by his pure conscience keeping the country first and his party second is really unfortunate. He could have simply budged to the demand of his party chief had not he is not a man of integrity. Concerned for the poor people is indeed laudable job but our country's growth cannot be compromise. Our solidarity extended to Mr. Trivedi.
Will the present Railway Minister deliver something. I would request
him to be sincere in his efforts to keep the trains running in time,
provide better amenities to the passengers, clean coaches, safety etc
and also to upgrade the stations like Singrauli which has not seen any
development since last 40 years. Still there is only one platform for
both UP and DOWN trains.

Indian Government is so much concerned about raising IT exemption for middle class salaried man but it has given tax exemption to BCCI for all IPL versions and World cup earnings as if BCCI is a charity trust. Congress is most corrupt party today...
Congratulations India, you get what you deserve.
From railway material supplier( 1980/Singha& Roy co.) to railway minister,(2012)
What a come back,
THE Result of Hard labour & Patience
Shame to you MMS, Mamta Banerjee and Mukul Roy (Triple M) for degrading India.
great indian political "tamasha". changing a minister for price hike which is quite fare rise is wrong.but indian politics don't run on moral grounds.
Mukul Roy has been forced upon the PM against his wishes and with protection of her mentor hovering over him he shall always have the option to defy the PM.It may be recalled a few years back Raja was accepted by PM as Telecom minster against his wishes.Look what happened. He always defied the PM did what ever he liked to benefit himself ,his clan and DMK but against the nation. Now Mukul Roy gets the same chance to defy PM, overlook nation's interest and act as per Mamata's wishes to benefit himself and his party .
Can Indians look forward for another scam in Railways in offing because with no effective governance bureaucrats can have the field day to do whatever they like if they find their minister doing things against the Raiway's interest in particular and nation's in general..
The Prime Minister speaks about "difficult decisions" the government had
to make made more difficult that it is a coalition government.succumbing
to pressures from the allies is not a difficult one.resisting it even at
the cost of the government is more difficult than succumbing.
The people of this great nation is held to ransom by political leaders
who have no heed to principles.
Certainly opposing this move. The Government could have stood by Dinesh Trivedi, a move that could bring the failing UPA Govt. some respect. But no, they again proved their decision lies in satisfying ego of other ministers for their own benefit, and not pertaining to the needs of the country.
It appears in the Railways nobody is indispensable and that means just anyone can be made to stepdown at the leaders desires.Maybe the President can show her displeasure and show the next one in.
Pity Dr.Singh had to give into the unjust demand of Ms.Bannerjee. She might ask for the sacking of Mr Pranab Mukherjee for the deemed anti-common man budget. Will Dr.Singh and Ms Gandhi oblige? My bet is that the demand will be met. The Chair needs to be preserved for the Prince-in-Waiting. No price is too big for it. Even self-respect.
Mr. Mukul Roy according to wikipedia passed higher secondary, joined B.Sc but did not go beyond 1st year. Mr. Trivedi is a business management graduate, a trained pilot and atrained sitarist.
does it really required a comment ? is it just about 2 paisa per Km. or
something big ?
