Did not press resignation from AICC wing, says Karan Singh

February 04, 2015 01:39 am | Updated 01:39 am IST - NEW DELHI:

Senior Congress leader Karan Singh had submitted his resignation as chairman of the foreign affairs department of the All India Congress Committee, but did not press it after a meeting with party president Sonia Gandhi.

Mr. Singh told The Hindu that he had sent the resignation to Ms. Gandhi after he was not included in the party delegation that called on U.S. President Barack Obama during his India visit.

“Ms. Gandhi called me soon after I sent the letter, but I could meet her only the next day. After the meeting, I felt that it would not be appropriate to press the resignation,” Mr. Singh said.

He has usually been part of the Congress delegation that meets visiting dignitaries.

Mr. Singh said his son Ajatshatru Singh joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) recently had no implication on his politics.
