An Army aviation helicopter on routine air maintenance sortie in Siachan area of Ladakh in Jammu and Kashmir has crashed in the strategic high altitude terrain after developing a technical snag on Monday morning.

Both the pilots on board are said to be safe as they successfully ejected through parachutes.

Sources told The Hindu that the helicopter flew from Chushul area in Ladakh and was on its way to the Indian army base on Siachan glacier.

An Inquiry has been ordered to find out reason for the technical snag.

Aviation helicopters usually carry supply and logistic support to troops deployed in forward posts, sources said.
