Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam president M. Karunanidhi on Friday criticised the demand of Chief Minister Jayalalithaa for the resignation of Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram following a High Court order on an election petition against his victory from Sivaganga constituency in the last Lok Sabha polls.
Saying that the charges against Mr. Chidambaram were not even enquired into, he termed the demand for his resignation unjustified.
The fact that the court wanted the charges to be examined in detail did not mean that he was guilty. The charges had to be tried and proved beyond reasonable doubt, he said in a letter in party organ ‘Murasoli'.
Mr. Karunanidhi questioned the locus standi of Ms. Jayalalithaa in making the demand in the backdrop of judgments or charges against her in the Tansi and disproportionate wealth cases. Mr. Karunanidhi alleged that arrests of DMK functionaries were made under the present regime merely based on complaints. The demand for resignation even before the charges were proved or even inquired into amounted to making a mockery of democracy, he added.

karunanidhi is right. if chidambaram resigns on this flimsy ground, in future all the good people will be driven away from the public life by the evil minded people like jaya by false cases and the nation will lead to a dooms day.
It is not just a question of the disproportionate assets case now
being tried against Jayalalitha. In 2001, she had the audacity to
take over as the Chief Minister when she was sentenced to three
years' RI in the TANSI land case and Election Commission had
disqualified her from contesting elections too. She took refuge
under the proviso that one has only to become MLA within 6
months, but had to quit under Supreme Court orders and put a
puppet in her place. How audacious and arrogant on her part to
demand resignation/sacking of Chidambaram when only his request
to dismiss the election petition has been rejected(partially) by
the court. These politicians are insulting the intelligence
of the public and questioning their memory powers by this sort of
talk.
