The former BCCI secretary, Sanjay Jagdale, and Indian Premier League CEO Sundar Raman were on Monday examined by the Delhi police in the spot-fixing case “to understand the nature and nuances of the tripartite agreement among the players participating in the Indian Premier League, the BCCI and franchise owners.”
“We had called both as the BCCI is the third party in the agreement signed. The two other signatories — the players themselves and the representative of the franchise [Rajasthan Royals] — have already been examined by us and the players are in judicial custody,” said a senior police officer.
The police did not divulge the details of the statements given to them by Mr. Jagdale and Mr. Raman but it is learnt that they would explore the breach of trust angle and whether the players violated any clause of the agreement among the three parties.
Among the clauses to be looked into are the ones where a player is “obliged to abide by the rules and guidelines of the game and play according to its true spirit.”
Mr. Jagdale had recently quit his post in the Board expressing his displeasure over the recent developments in Indian cricket.
Their statement would further be examined by a battery of prosecutors and other legal experts.
Sources in the police said it was unlikely that the BCCI, like Rajasthan Royals, would file a complaint against the franchise’s three suspended players — fast bowler S. Sreesanth and spinners Ajit Chandila and Ankeet Chavan — for breach of contract.
The officer said they were looking for several others in connection with the case and added that few more bookies and conduits were likely to be arrested in the coming days.
|The bail application of 14 accused in the case would come up for hearing at a local court here on Tuesday. Among those who have applied for bail are Sreesanth and Chandila.
