Delhi HC seeks Centre’s response on astrology-based TV shows

The Delhi High Court on Wednesday sought the Centre’s response on a plea filed by an NGO seeking to regulate programmes based on astrology on television.

A division bench of Chief Justice G Rohini and Justice R S Endlaw sought a response from Ministry of Information and Broadcasting on the petition filed by NGO Sai Lok Kalyan Sanstha.

The court listed the matter for further hearing on September 10.

The plea filed by Ajay Gautam, president, Sai Lok Kalyan Sanstha, alleged that “huge amount of money is changing hands and the physical and mental well being of citizen is at stake. Regulatory bodies must check the astrology programmes that promise cures on payment of money, the plea said.
