Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to meet Surya Bose, grandnephew of freedom fighter Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, on Monday during the Germany leg of his three-nation tour.
In Germany the highlight of Mr. Modi’s visit was the joint inauguration of the Hannover Fair along with Chancellor Angela Merkel on Sunday; India is the partner nation for the fair for this year.
Although no bilaterals are expected to be signed during the visit, all issues would be discussed and agreements will be tabled during Ms. Merkel’s visit to India in October.
While in Germany, Mr. Modi will also inspect the Berlin Railway station.
Mr. Modi’s meeting with Mr. Surya Bose comes in the midst of a raging controversy after recently declassified Intelligence Bureau documents revealed that the former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru had spied on the family of Bose for two decades from 1948 to 1968 both in India and abroad.
Mr. Surya Bose is a German businessman and member of the Indo-German Association in Hamburg.
Mr. Modi will meet members from the Indian community at a reception being organised by the Indian Embassy in Berlin.
“He [Surya Bose] has sought time with the Prime Minister and if he gets a chance, he will raise the issue of declassification… He will present the cause of not only the family but of the country,” Chandra Kumar Bose, grandnephew of Subhas Chandra Bose and brother of Surya Bose, told The Hindu .
“Opportunity to correct history”Saying that the Modi government had been talking of transparency, Mr. Bose, added: “PM Modi has the opportunity to correct history and bring out the truth.”
