A wave of anger swept through the fishing hamlets around Rameswaram following news of the Colombo high court verdict.

About a kilometre of railway tracks were removed, a bus was torched and road traffic between Rameswaram and the mainland remained cut off as protests turned violent. Shouting slogans against the Centre for “deceiving” them, Thangachimadam fishermen blocked traffic at Pamban.
