Death of two civilians in shelling by Pakistan in RS Pura Sector in Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday morning is highly condemnable, Defence Minister Arun Jaitley said.

Addressing media after commissioning of Indian Navy’s latest acquisition the indigenously manufactured stealth anti-submarine warfare corvette INS Kamorta at the Naval Dockyard of the Eastern Naval Command here on Saturday, he said that even during wartime deaths of civilians is condemnable and such deaths happening during peacetime was highly condemnable. He said that he had learnt of the violation in the morning and that the Army and Defence Ministry would react to the situation.

Noting that the ceasefire violations by Pakistan have increased, he said that the BSF and the Indian Army are vigilant and effectively protecting our borders and they are responding to any incidents of violation from across the border. The Government has full faith in the capability of our uniformed forces in protecting our borders and national interests, Mr Jaitley asserted.

Though there were a number of violations of ceasefire it was not reflective of a breakdown of relations with our neighbours and could not be seen as leading to a warlike situation, he said.
