Day curfew in riot-hit towns of Miraj, Sangli and Ichalkaranji was on Saturday lifted while it would continue at night till further orders.

The decision to lift the day curfew was taken after no untoward incident was reported during the last 24 hours, an official said.

Life was returning to normal after peaceful Ganesh immersion at Miraj on Thursday night.

The Sangli district and its adjoining areas had witnessed week-long communal disturbances in the wake of trouble during idol immersion on September 3, Anant Chaturdashi day, leading to death of one person and injury to five.
