Former judge of the Supreme Court of India V. R. Krishna Iyer has written to Bharatiya Janata Party’s Prime Minister-in-waiting Narendra Modi felicitating him and appealing that he constitute a ministry of law and anti-corruption under a senior minister with “decisive powers to investigate and exterminate corruption”.
He said that India had, till now, suffered political chaos and plural corruption but the “fate of Bharat has decreed that a great new dynamic chapter will dawn and the sublime instrument of this magnificent transformation will be through a million hands symbolized in a single sober humanist.”
Justice Iyer hoped that the new Prime Minister would inspire the two Houses of Parliament to “undo colonialism under the British law and make the majesty of the people and their fundamental rights through a paramount jurisprudence.”
The letter expressed the hope that India under the new Prime Minister will be a place where humanity and not legality is the “pride of democratic Republic”.
Justice Iyer appealed: “Don’t be a ruler but rise to be avatar” so that when the story of India comes to be written the Modi chapter will be illustrious to inspire coming generations.
