Dalit groups to protest outside stadium

October 31, 2014 01:40 am | Updated November 16, 2021 07:15 pm IST - MUMBAI:

Even as the Wankhede stadium will be packed with political bigwigs and celebrities for the swearing-in of Devendra Fadnavis as the Maharashtra Chief Minister on Friday, Dalit organisations will stage a dharna outside it to protest the police inaction in the gruesome Dalit triple murder case.

Sanjay Jadhav (42), his wife Jayashree (38) and their son Sunil (19) were hacked to death and their bodies dismembered, in Javkheda Khalasa village in Ahmednagar’s Pathardi taluka on the intervening night of October 20 and 21. Though the police have taken 22 people into custody, no arrests have been made.

A fact-finding report by the Dalit Atyachar Virodhi Kruti Samiti found that the murders were “premeditated.” It alleged that the dominant Maratha lobby is operating across parties to ensure that the investigation is scuttled.
