Dadri lynching: Akhlaq’s family leaves village

Family of the victim of Dadri lynching Mohammed Akhlaq leave home and move to New Delhi.

The family members of Mohammed Akhlaq, who was beaten to death on a street at Bishahra village near Dadri last week over rumours of eating beef, have left their home for the comparative safety of Delhi.

Mohammad Sartaj, the elder son of Akhlaq, who is a corporal in the Air Force, said that his family had moved to Delhi. Air Force sources too confirmed that Sartaj, posted in Chennai at present, had moved his family to an IAF area in the capital.

As the village, 60 km from Delhi, continued to struggle to return to normalcy, a fringe Hindutva outfit founded by BJP Member of Parliament Yogi Adityanath offered all help to the majority community, “including guns”, if they were harassed by the police.

Bishahra continued to be out of bounds for outsiders including Hindutva leaders, who tried to steamroll their way into the village but were prevented by the authorities.

VHP leader Sadhvi Prachi was prevented from entering the village, after she sought to defy prohibitory orders on Wednesday. Prachi alleged there was a “conspiracy” behind the administration’s move and asked why AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi was allowed to meet the victim’s family.
