Life in Shopian town of south Kashmir started limping towards normalcy as authorities on Sunday lifted curfew, which was imposed after killing of five persons in CRPF firing, after 10 days.
“Curfew has been lifted from Shopian town today,” a police spokesman said.
The spokesman said the situation in the town remained peaceful with no untoward incident reported so far.
Curfew was first clamped in Shopian district on September 8, following wide-spread clashes after the killing of four persons in CRPF firing a day earlier.
The prohibitory orders were lifted on September 11, but curfew was re-imposed in the town next day following clashes between protestors and security forces which led to the killing of another youth, taking the toll to five.
The local residents had demanded registration of FIR against CRPF personnel involved in the killings and removal of their camp from Gagran in the town. The process of replacing the paramilitary personnel by Jammu and Kashmir Armed Police started on Friday.
