Harsimrat Kaur Badal on Tuesday said her priority as Minister for Food Processing would be to “minimise post-harvest wastage.”
On taking charge of the Ministry, she told journalists here that India should be on a par with other countries in food processing.
There should be optimum utilisation of harvested crops, said the two-time MP from Bhatinda. “I will do my best to get farmers what they deserve. Whatever wastage takes place from the farm gate to markets should be reduced,” said the 47-year-old daughter-in-law of Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and wife of Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal.
The Ministry focusses on policy decisions on post-harvest losses, transportation, and enhanced shelf-life of processed foods at reasonable cost to consumers.
