An Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of the Central Reserve Police Force was killed in an encounter with the Maoists in Sukma district of south Chhattisgarh on the intervening night of Friday and Saturday. The deceased was identified as ASI Anil Kumar Maurya who hailed from Amethi in Uttar Pradesh. The encounter took place under Kistaram police station limits of Sukma when a team of the CRPF’s 212th battalion was carrying out an anti-Maoist operation in the area. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath condoled the death of Maurya and announced an ex gratia of ₹25 lakh to his family. “I salute the valor and dedication of the CRPF ASI Anil Kumar Maurya who attended martyrdom while fighting the Maoists in Chhattisgarh. May his family get the strength to face this tragedy. The country will remember this brave son who made the biggest sacrifice for his motherland,” Mr. Adityanath wrote on Twitter.
