CPI(M) regrets SIT clean chit for Modi

April 17, 2013 02:38 am | Updated 02:38 am IST - NEW DELHI:

The Communist Party of India (Marxist) on Tuesday demanded the resignation of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi for his alleged involvement in the 2002 riots. It said information from documents of the Supreme Court-ordered probe into the Gujarat carnage provided clinching evidence of the deliberate refusal of the Modi government to act to prevent violence against the minority community despite repeated urgent messages from police in different areas.

“It is indeed a matter of deep regret that the SIT chose to ignore such a damning indictment of the State government and gave a clean chit to Modi, raising questions about its own credibility,” the CPI(M) Polit Bureau said in a statement.
