CPI(M) against Hazare's method of agitation

August 21, 2011 11:43 pm | Updated August 11, 2016 04:54 pm IST - KOLKATA:

The Communist Party of India (Marxist) protests against the manner in which anti-corruption activist Anna Hazare was arrested, but does not support the method adopted in his agitation, Biman Bose State secretary of the party stated here on Sunday.

According to the Constitution, the Parliament and State Legislatures have the authority to make laws, Mr. Bose told journalists after a meeting of the State Committee of the CPI(M).

“Undemocratic”

“Laws cannot be made on maidans (grounds),” Mr. Bose emphasised, adding that while demands can be placed , only Parliament and State legislatures are empowered to make the law.

“No one can frame the law – that would be undemocratic,” he added.

Nationwide protests

Mr. Bose said that during the meeting, a decision was taken that the State will participate in the nationwide protests against high level corruption on August 23 organised by the Left parties.
