A CPI (M) worker was shot dead by suspected Maoists in West Bengal’s Purulia district on Monday evening, police said.

Kalu Sona Mondal was having a conversation with some people at a tea stall in Kherkridih village when four suspected Maoists, who came in two motorcycles and fired at him at around 6 pm, they said.

Mondal was rushed to Purulia Sadar Hospital in a serious condition but he later succumbed to his injuries, police said.

He is the younger brother of Yudhistir Mondal, the CPI (M) panchayat member of Balarampur.
