A civil court here on Monday dismissed a plaint that accused Yahoo India of hosting objectionable content inimical to communal harmony and Indian culture on its websites. It imposed a cost of Rs.5,000 on plaintiff Mufti Aijaz Arshad Qazmi for not disclosing any “cause of action” against Yahoo in the suit brought against it and 20 other websites.

Administrative Civil Judge Parveen Singh, on Thursday dropped Microsoft India from the suit for the same reason and penalised Mr. Qazmi an identical sum.

Counsel for Yahoo India, on March 1, pointed to the Judge that even “the basic allegations necessary to sustain the plaint were missing.” Alleging an agenda on the part of the plaintiff, counsel alleged that Mr. Qazmi had “randomly picked up some websites without applying his mind.”
