A couple were killed and their two relatives, a woman and a minor girl, were gang-raped by a gang of five unidentified men during a robbery at Dingerheri village in neighbouring Mewat district in the early hours of Thursday. No arrests have been made so far.

The shocking crime came to light when the one of the family members managed to escape from the house and alerted their relatives in the farms nearby.

According to the complainant in the case, who is one of the two gang rape victims, she along with her three cousins was asleep inside the house and her uncle and other family members were sleeping outside when she heard loud screams around midnight. Suddenly, four to five men barged inside the house, tied up the family members. They beat them up with iron rods and sticks. Three members of the gang then took turns to rape the complainant, who is married, and her minor cousin. The robbers ransacked the house, searching for valuables and cash. According to the complainant, one of the gang members carried a country-made pistol as well.

After commiting the crime, the robbers locked the two rape victims inside the house and took away cash, jewellery and a motorcycle parked in the house.

Two of the complainant's relatives, Ibrahim and his wife Rashidan, later died of their injuries in a hospital.

The family had come from Uttar Pradesh five years ago to settle in the village, the police said.

A case has been registered under different sections of the Indian Penal Code for gang rape, causing grievous hurt and house tresspass and under the the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act and the Arms Act.

“It seems to be a case of murder and gang rape during a robbery. Efforts are being made to identify the gang and arrest the culprits. No arrests have been made so far,” said Station House Officer, (Tauru), Inspector Jai Prakash.
