Constable Avnish Yadav, one of the two accused in the gang rape of a 14-year-old inside the Musajhag police station in Badaun district of Uttar Pradesh, was arrested around 1 a.m. on Tuesday. Acting on a tip-off, a joint team of Badaun and Bareilly police made the arrest from Station Road in Bareilly when Yadav was about to board a train for Delhi, said a senior police officer. He was produced in a local court which remanded him in judicial custody.

The minor girl was gang-raped on the night of December 31, 2014. The victim was brought to the police station in a car. The other accused, Virpal Singh Yadav is absconding. Both have been dismissed from service.

Bareilly SP Rajiv Malhotra told The Hindu over the phone that Yadav was handed over to the investigating officer from Badaun. “Teams have been constituted to nab the other accused,” Mr. Malhotra said.
