Senior Congress leader and Union Petroleum Minister M. Veerappa Moily on Friday ruled out protecting anybody, including former Union Minister Jagadish Tytler, for his alleged involvement in the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, in which some 3,000 people were massacred soon after the assassination of the former Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi.
Mr. Moily told presspersons that the law would take its own course in the case of Mr. Tytler also. The party was following this line since 1985-86. Its heart goes to all those who lost their lives in the riots. Mr. Tytler was not Congress’ Modi, Mr. Moily said. He termed the pogrom in Gujarat “Modi genocide.” The Chief Minister did not come out with a single step to punish the guilty, he added.
